The Houston Chapter of the Better Business Bureau (BBB) has selected SNAP as the recipient of its 2009 Pinnacle Award in the nonprofit category. The award is the BBB’s highest honor. This marks the second year in a row that the BBB has recognized SNAP. The agency was honored with the Winner of Distinction award in 2008. SNAP was selected to be a recipient of the Winner of Distinction award for 2009 as well. The winner of the Pinnacle Award is chosen from among each year’s Winner of Distinction award winners.
According to the BBB, criteria for judging include "methods the organization uses to ensure all marketing, promotional materials, fundraising, and advertisement claims are truthful and accurate; collaborations and partnerships taken by the organization that returned value to your community beyond the scope of your charitable mission; the organization's policies and practices that assure excellence in programs and services; three letters of commendation, and more." The award is based on the total score given by a group of independent judges.
The award was given by the BBB at an awards luncheon on Wednesday, May 6, 2009. Attending from SNAP were Board Member Pam Harris, Director of Development Laura Welch, and SNAP Supporter T. Wade Welch.
